SHEPPARTON Field and Game elected a new management committee last month at the club’s annual general meeting, seeing 20-year club associate Steve Trelfall elected as president.
With more than 450 members, the club’s new vice-president is Tom Chick, junior vice-president, Brad Wooten, secretary, John Graham, conservation coordinator, Dennis Paterson, hunting coordinator, Rick Bilney and kitchen manager, Louise Bertolli.
Mr. Trelfall said that as president of the club, formed more than 50 years ago, he would do his best to change public misconceptions that genuine hunters are not concerned about environmental conservation.
“Sustainable hunting in the Goulburn Valley has benefited by our members, working behind the scenes with tree planting, monitoring environment water flows and offering assistance to Wildlife Habitat,” he said.
“Vermin drives are also part of the year round activities by Shepparton F & G. People are often not conscious that if there were nothing to hunt, we would not exist. Therefore it is in our own benefit to look after what we have today for tomorrow.”
