WHILE they’re not sure if Dancing with the Stars is on the cards or not, local dancers Rodney Brown, 15, and Maddie Becker, 16, said they are aiming high in their sport after winning four titles at the National Capital DanceSport Championships at the AIS in Canberra earlier this month.

Reaching finals in all nine of their events, including ballroom, new vogue and latin categories, the couple who have been training together for two years are now wanting to progress from junior level competition to compete against dancers aged 16 to 18.

“We want to go as far as we can and achieve as much as we can,” Rodney said who trains with Maddie 10 hours per week.

“It felt so amazing just to win one event, but then to win three more was just unbelievable.”

But the pair almost missed out on the competition, two weeks prior, Maddie injured her knee leaving her unable to train properly and the pair’s confidence shattered.

“We weren’t sure if it would hold up,” Rodney said.

“The physio said it was a six week injury.”

The couple managed to overcome the hurdle and their nerves to do their mums proud who “started screaming after they announced their first win,” Rodney said.

Rodney and Maddie will soon prepare for another national championship in Sydney later this year.
