FROM funding simple community BBQ events to sporting infrastructure, the Shire of Campaspe’s Community Grants program continues to put money back into the community.
Council recently presented cheques for $74,600 to non-profit sporting clubs, churches and schools to fund a wide variety of projects across the region. Representatives from organisations in Echuca, Tongala, Kyabram, Rochester, Corop, Bamawm Extension, Girgarre, Moora and Toolleen, were happy to receive their grants.
Grants ranging from $250 to $10,000 were awarded in the categories of heritage, cultural, environment, recreation, assistance and event grants, announced last month.
Mayor Peter Williams said he was astounded by the variety and number of projects.
“Where would our small, and for that matter, large towns be without great community events such as theatre productions, art shows, singing sessions, and tennis competitions? These things don’t just magically happen, there are costs involved, which Council is pleased to help with, and they also require lots of behind-the-scenes work, which is why hard working community groups are so important,” Cr Williams said.
Applications for round two of the 2010/2011 Community Grants program open in September.
