IN 2010 the School of Rural Health has registered its largest student intake since its inception eight years ago.
The enrolment of 61 students includes seven students from our own local area, which is a great indicator for the initiative.
Professor and Chairperson of the Centre, Dawn DeWitt said, “We’ve always had a good trickle of local student enrolments but this is the largest intake so far. These are students from the country, for the country and they are genuinely excited to have the opportunity to study rurally.”
“It is great to know that we can give them such a wonderful learning environment.”
The intiative provides students with health education and research training in a rural environment, based here in Shepparton. Students are offered multidisciplinary opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate and practising health professional training in a community environment.
Fourth year Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery student and former Mooroopna resident, Karamdeep Bhullar said, “The School of Rural Health offers us a better learning environment with more opportunities and hands on experience. We’re a small group and we really get to know each other.”
Fellow fourth year student and former Ardmona resident, Matt Morey said, “It’s an exciting and supportive environment for learning with a real sense of community.”
