Guess the location

REFLECTING ON OUR HISTORY… Pictured, the Arch welcoming the returned serviceman or the ‘Come Backs’ as they were known. This latest photo in the ‘Guess the location’ competition has generously been supplied by the Shepparton Heritage Centre.

Shepparton Heritage Centre in conjunction with The Adviser are running a Guess the location photo competition in the lead up to Shepparton’s 150th celebrations in September. One correct entry per week will be drawn during the coming weeks, the winner will receive a free copy of the soon to be published ‘Water: the Vital Element’ - One hundred and fifty years of Shepparton’s growth by Martin Summons.
The book, a comprehensive collection of historical pieces along with fantastic photos of Shepparton, will be available for purchase in late September.
This week’s question is: A highly successful ‘Back To’ was held in Shepparton in April 1923 and an Arch was placed to welcome the ‘Come Backs’. At the end of the street a banner reads ‘The Shepparton Advertiser Welcomes You’. Behind it is the entrance to the Monash Bridge and Mooroopna Road. What street are we looking down?
Helpful Hint: The present High Street access was years away, there was only one bridge.
The answer to last week’s question was: The photo is taken from the inside of the Neo Café, believed to be looking towards the front doors.
Congratulations to Mal Delahey of Violet Town.
